3 Beaches in Cuba worth Visiting

There are a number of great beaches lining the coast of Cuba and the surrounding islands, but Varadero, Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo seem to get the most attention. There are some other outstanding beach areas in the country and three of my favourites are listed below.

Playa Ancón beach

Playa Ancón Beach

Playa Ancon is one of the contenders for the best beach in Cuba, and its powdery white sand beaches and pristine aquamarine waters make it a very popular tourist destination.

Playa Ancon has plenty of isolated stretches of beach area as most of the locals and tourists go to Varadero and Cayo Largo.

This beach resort is also popular because it is very close to Trinidad, which makes it possible to explore Trinidad while staying at a beautiful beach resort.

Playa Ancon is especially popular among divers, and boasts a large number of dive operators and diving schools set up in the region.

Most hotels in Playa Ancon will be able to arrange a diving or snorkelling expedition to one of the thirty dive sites located offshore of Playa Ancon.

The best dive spot is reputed to be the Cayo Blanco, which is considered to be one of the best dive locations in the world.

It is also possible to go on a seafaring exhibition, where visitors can get a glimpse of the underwater life with a boat trip that includes lunch and snorkelling.

Getting to Playa Ancon is relatively simple as the area is accessible by road and by sea.

Interested visitors can choose to drive down in their own automobile or take a taxi into town.

Some people choose to cycle to Playa Ancon, if they are staying in one of the nearby beach resorts.

Cayo Santa Maria Beach

Cayo Santa Maria, Cayo Ensanachos and Cayo Las Brujas are part of the Cayos de la Herradura, which is a group of islands.

Of all the islands in the Key, Cayo Santa Maria is easily the largest, with a 10 kilometre stretch of beach.

Cayo Santa Maria Beach is located off the coast of Villa Clara, slightly to the north of the province, whilst Villa Clara and Cayo Santa Maria are separated from each other by the Buena Vista Bay.

The distance between the mainland and this beautiful beach is around 30 kilometres.

Surrounding Cayo Santa Maria, are hundreds of small islands with secluded beaches that are ideal day trip destinations for visitors looking to enjoy a private picnic or romantic getaway.

There are many activities available at the Cayo Santa Maria and if you are looking for a relaxing beachside holiday or if you want to indulge in adventure sports during your stay, this beach resort has something to offer everyone.

Cayo Santa Maria Beach is an excellent location for diving, snorkelling, fishing and water sports.

Getting to Cayo Santa Maria Beach is possible via the causeway that connects the mainland to Cayo Santa Maria.

On the drive to the island, visitors will be able to enjoy beautiful ocean views and see exotic birds from the nearby islands.

Cayo Largo Beach

Off Cuba’s southern shore is the tiny island of Cayo Largo beach which is one of the finest places to go if you like scuba diving.

The coral reefs are truly magnificent and the beaches are unspoilt, white sand.

To get to Cayo Largo it is necessary to take a plane flight or a six-hour boat trip from Havana, but the remoteness of Cayo Lago means that for a holiday, it is an area that is totally unspoilt, save for a few hotels and restaurants.

The island is a wonderful place for fauna and flora and with species including chelonian and exotic parrots, as well as enjoying some of the worlds best beaches on this island of Cayo Largo, you can enjoy really enjoy the nature and ecological beauty.

Diving in Cayo Largo, Cuba

The quality of the diving is what attracts a significant number of people to this small Cuban island and there are great facilities here for diving.

There are dozens of Diving Centers here and most offer:

  • Training
  • Equipment hire
  • Mini bus transfers
